Summary

These are Bumble's Terms and Conditions for their dating app, governing account creation, content, subscriptions, and dispute resolution. The terms are moderately aggressive: users grant Bumble a broad, perpetual, royalty-free license to their uploaded content, and subscriptions auto-renew unless actively cancelled. A mandatory arbitration clause with a class action waiver is present, though users have the right to opt out. Account termination can occur at Bumble's sole discretion for vague reasons, with no refunds for any paid features. EU and UK users receive some additional legal protections not extended to others.

Flagged Clauses

Warningip rights

When you upload photos, text, or other content to Bumble, you give them a permanent, worldwide, royalty-free right to use that content in almost any way they choose — including in advertising — even after you delete your account. The license does not expire automatically.

By uploading Your Content on Bumble, you automatically grant us a non-exclusive, royalty free, perpetual, worldwide license to use Your Content in any way (including, without limitation, editing, copying, modifying, adapting, translating, reformatting, creating derivative works from, incorporating into other works, advertising, distributing and otherwise making available to the general public).

Cautionip rights

Bumble can pass the rights to use your content to other companies (affiliates or future owners of Bumble) without asking you first.

We may assign and/or sub-license the above licence to our affiliates and successors without any further approval by you.

Warningarbitration

By default, you cannot sue Bumble in court or join a class action lawsuit. Disputes go to private arbitration. You do have the right to opt out of this clause, but you must actively do so per Section 15 — it is not automatic.

Section 15 contains an arbitration agreement that will, with limited exceptions, require disputes between us to be submitted to binding and final arbitration. You will only be permitted to pursue claims and seek relief against us on an individual basis only; and you are waiving your right to seek relief in a court of law and to have a jury trial on your claims.

Cautionauto renewal

Paid subscriptions automatically renew at whatever Bumble's price is at renewal time — which may have changed since you first subscribed — unless you manually cancel beforehand.

If you subscribe to services for a term (the 'Initial Term'), then the terms of your subscription will be automatically renewed for additional periods of the same duration as the Initial Term at Bumble's then-current fee for such services, unless you cancel your subscription in accordance with Section 6 below.

Warningtermination

Bumble can terminate your account without warning for extremely broad and vague reasons, including behavior on entirely different apps run by Bumble's affiliates. Reason (4) essentially allows termination for any reason at all.

We expressly reserve the right to terminate or suspend your Account without notice (1) for violating these Terms, (2) due to your conduct on the App... if we, in our sole discretion, determine your conduct was inappropriate or improper, (3) if we or our affiliates, in our or their sole discretion, determine your conduct on other apps operated by our affiliates was inappropriate or improper, or (4) for any reasons whatsoever that we deem, in our sole discretion, justifies termination.

Warningpayment

If Bumble terminates your account — even using the very broad 'any reason' clause — you forfeit any money paid for subscriptions or premium features with no refund.

If your Account is terminated or suspended, you agree you will not receive a refund for any paid service or features you have already been charged for.

Warningliability

You are agreeing upfront to release Bumble from liability — including for personal injury or death — arising from interactions with other users on the platform. California residents have a partial carve-out via Civil Code 1542 waiver language included.

You agree to, and hereby do, release Bumble Group and its successors from any claims, demands, losses, damages, rights, and actions of any kind, including personal injuries, death and property damage, that either directly or indirectly arises from your interactions with or conduct of other users of the App.

Cautionindemnification

If someone sues Bumble because of content you posted, you are responsible for covering Bumble's legal costs and any resulting damages.

You will indemnify, defend, release, and hold us harmless from any claims made in connection with Your Content.

Cautiondata sharing

Logging in with Facebook grants Bumble access to a range of your Facebook data, including information about your Facebook friends, not just your own profile.

If you create an Account using your Facebook login details, you authorise us to access, display and use certain information from your Facebook account (e.g. profile pictures, relationship status, location and information about Facebook friends).

Cautiontermination

Deleting your account does not immediately remove all your content. Also, if you try to sign up again with the same credentials before full deletion completes, your old account is reactivated instead of creating a new one.

Your Account will be deleted immediately but it may take a little while for Your Content to be completely removed from the App. If you delete your Account and try to create a new account within this time period using the same credentials, we will re-activate your Account for you.

Cautionmodification

The Community Guidelines (which are incorporated into these Terms) can be changed at any time. Continued use of the app implies acceptance of whatever the current version says, so rules you agreed to originally may change without a separate notice process being clearly described here.

You agree to comply with our Community Guidelines as may be updated from time to time.

Infoownership

Bumble has no obligation to preserve your uploaded photos, messages, or other content. If you want to keep anything, you need to save copies yourself.

We do not have any obligation to store Your Content - if it's important, you should make a copy.

Infocancellation

California residents have a short window (3 business days) after subscribing to cancel and get a refund under California law. This protection is not described as available to users in other states.

California subscribers: You may cancel your subscription and request a refund at any time prior to midnight of the third business day following the date you subscribed.

Missing Protections

  • No explicit content deletion timeline commitment — the document only says content 'may take a little while' to be removed after account deletion
  • No clear process described in these Terms for how users can opt out of the arbitration clause (only references Section 15 which is not included in this excerpt)
  • No explicit statement about whether data is sold to third parties (deferred entirely to Privacy Policy, which is not analyzed here)
  • No cap or limit specified on how much indemnification the user could owe Bumble
  • No clear description of what notice, if any, Bumble provides before changing these Terms (only Community Guidelines mention 'updated from time to time')
  • No guarantee of service availability or uptime
  • No description of data portability rights for non-EU/UK users
  • Auto-renewal price change notification process is not described — users may be charged a new price without advance warning beyond what is stated here

Fair Terms

  • Users have a 6-month window to appeal account termination or content removal decisions, with a specific appeals process described
  • EU users receive additional protections including access to third-party out-of-court dispute settlement and the ability to bring claims in their local courts
  • UK users have additional rights under local law and access to information about content moderation practices
  • The arbitration clause includes an explicit opt-out right, which is more user-friendly than many comparable apps
  • Bumble explicitly states it may investigate criminal histories and block convicted sex offenders, human traffickers, and other serious offenders — and is transparent about the limitations of these checks
  • Users retain ownership of their content (the license granted is non-exclusive, meaning users keep their own rights)
  • Bumble states it may act on users' behalf to send DMCA takedown notices if user content is stolen by third parties outside the platform
  • California subscribers are informed of their 3-business-day refund right
